Water & Education in Africa

March 21, 2017

Two of the many crucial issues facing the children in Africa are lack of water and lack of education. According to the World Health Organization Water Project, 319 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa are without access to improved reliable drinking water sources. Sub-Saharan Africa is among the regions with the greatest drinking water spending needs, with the greatest investment needs in rural areas. By investing in clean water alone, young children around the world can gain more than 413 million days of health. Furthermore, according to Humanium, in developed and developing countries alike, children do not have access to basic education because of inequalities that originate in sex, health and cultural identity (ethnic origin, language, religion).

These children find themselves on the margins of the education system and do not benefit from education, which is vital to their intellectual and social development. Essentially this concerns Sub-Saharan Africa where more than half of the children receive an education for less than 4 years. In certain countries, such as Somalia and Burkina Faso, more than 50% of children receive an education for a period less than 2 years. These problems can be resolved if we create long-term solutions to help solve these problems. With the assistance of AnthobeX, a non-profit, non-governmental organization that targets  finding solutions not only for lack of water, education, electricity, health resources but also lack of food for children in Africa. Once the solutions for these issues have been created and implemented, the children in Africa can be much more equipped to make a difference in the world thereby becoming well-rounded leaders of the world.
